Order in the last two weeks before peak season and the calendar beats you: 30-45 days of production, 30-45 days of ocean transit, a week to clear and shelve — the containers land after your customers have already bought elsewhere. The cash and the warehouse space stay frozen until next year.
Work backward from the shelf date
- Target shelf date − 90 days = latest order date (production 30-45 + ocean transit 30-45 + receiving 7).
- Peak windows: Central Asia / Russia — autumn weddings and New Year; Indonesia / Malaysia — the weeks before Ramadan; Africa — the year-end holiday season.
- Add 15 days of buffer for port or customs delays, and confirm factory capacity in writing when you order.
Don't bet the year on one container
- Split the year into 2-3 batches: one before each peak window, one mid-year filler for fast sellers.
- Reorder trigger: when a best seller drops to 4 weeks of cover, place the next batch.
