Spec the wrong cooktop type and your buyers' end customers blame the stove — then return it. The biggest driver is a myth: "induction means I must replace every pot I own."
Name the type before it ships
- Induction: magnetic field heats the pan directly; glass stays only warm. Boils in 2–3 min; spills wipe off a cool surface.
- Ceramic (infrared): heats the glass first, then the pan; residual heat lingers. Boils in 5–6 min; spills bake on and scratch the surface.
- Cookware: most modern pans are universal. A fridge magnet on the base confirms it — buyers rarely need new pots.
The fix is mostly labeling: the cooktop type stated clearly on the box and in the manual, plus a one-line magnet test so end users stop assuming they must re-buy cookware. That kills the "wrong type" return before it happens.
